The 2012 model is very similar to the link above, but has velcro hiking pole/ice axe holders instead of the bungee cord.

Tons of storage, zippered opening from the front to allow easy packing and access to the bottom, and a great ventilation system at the back make this an excellent backpack for weekend trips.

The pack can fit a small bear canister (I've used a garcia and a bv450) easily.

Includes a rain cover!

I've used mine strictly for on trail hiking (so there isn't any damage to the pack fabric apart from general wear) about 15 nights over the last 2 seasons. Never been in the rain. Stored properly when not in use.

At 3lbs it is not UL, but is a great pack for someone you know who is just getting started backpacking.
