As has been shown by BackpackingLight testing, and dozens of other adventurers and media outlets, this is one of the best backpacking backpacks in the world.

The pack was new in 2012 and has been used for a bunch of trips. It's in good condition: two small punctures have been repaired and the bottom has some scuffs and small abrasion marks. However, these do not influence performance-- the pack is still 100% rainproof and it will easily last for many years of hiking. For example, I'm confident you could take it on multiple 2000 mile thru-hikes.

See the photos below for details on condition. Note that I removed the interior mesh sleeve because I never used it. You can hand a hydration bladder from an interior loop if you want to.

Similar to HMG’s award-winning Windrider, the 2400 Southwest includes three durable Hardline exterior pockets for adventurers who prefer solid exterior pockets instead of mesh. Designed specifically to avoid snagging in the rough scrub brush and rock crags of southwest America, this 40 liter, 28.6 oz. (811 gram) pack is ideal for day trips, weekend hikes, section hiking, or months on the trails where frequent re-supply points are available, such as the Appalachian Trail, the Long Trail, or the El Camino de Santiago.

Constructed from our Cuben/50d Poly hybrid fabric, the 2400 Southwest is lightweight, durable and will ride on your back with extreme comfort. This pack includes a roll-top closure, Y-strap top compression, four side compression straps, an internal mesh hydration sleeve, hydration port, removable internal aluminum stays, sternum strap, and the three external solid pockets for added volume and storage.

New features for 2014 include fully sealed side seams for improved water resistance, a double-reinforced 150d pack bottom, re-designed hip-belt pockets for improved utility, and extended hip-belt length for better wrap around support allowing improved weight transfer capability from the shoulders to the hips.

Recommended carrying capacity range for the 2400 Southwest is 20-40lbs and as with all HMG packs, a rain cover is not required, however we highly recommend Cuben fiber stuff sacks to compartmentalize your gear and provide an added layer of water resistant security.
