The listed length of the bag extends TO THE NECK of a person that height. Size up a length if you want extra room to wrap the quilt around your ears or tuck your head in.
For example, a Medium 5′ 9″ bag should be long enough to cinch comfortably around the neck of a person who is Up To 5′ 9″ (1.75m) tall. That is fine if you sleep in a warm hat or hood, but I find it very nice to size up a length so that I can pull the quilt up around my ears when it gets cold.
