Bought these last year for some snowy approaches/descents in the Sierra. (Mt Goode, Banner). They are light weight and small enough to carry in a pack, provide just enough traction, strap onto a trail runner, and are cheap.

I bought three pair but won't be needing any this year. $5/pair plus shipping. Cheap insurance in your pack for a hard pack descent.
