Baofeng hand held dual band radio. There's a good review at Outdoor Gear Lab here.  

Includes the following accessories which all combined cost a bit more than the radio itself: 

• programming cable
• upgraded desk charger (had some issues with the original)
• 3800 mAh high cap extra battery
• Nagoya 701 8" medium gain antenna (works fine - electric tape shown just reinforced it where it was a little bent from being in my pack brain)
• Nagoya 771 15" high gain whip antenna
• Original stock 1800 mAh battery and antenna are included but I found much better performance using the above stuff

Works great - no issues. Can work fine in the field and/or or great starter radio to learn about radios and how to program and use them. 

Can be programmed manually or using CHIRP. Can be setup to receive/transmit any commercial UHF or VHF frequency, all FRS/GMRS (think motorola talkabout, BCA, or Rockie Talkie) and recieves NWS weather channels and FM radio channels. With the long whip antenna, if you're up high you can pick up FM channels from crazy far away, and listen to sports/news/music from your high camp.
